REO Speedwagon (originally styled as R.E.O. Speedwagon) is an American rock band from Champaign, Illinois. Formed in 1967, the band cultivated a following during the 1970s and achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1980s. Hi Infidelity (1980) contained four US Top 40 hits and is the group's best-selling album, with over ten million copies sold.

REO stands for Ransom Eli Olds, the name of the founder of Oldsmobile (originally called "Olds Motor Vehicle Company" when founded) and the now defunct REO Motor Car Company.

The band is named after the 1915 REO Speed Wagon which was designed by Ransom Eli Olds.
Gary Richrath left REO Speedwagon in 1989 because he was not happy with the direction the band was going. He was replaced by Dave Amato who became a long-time and permanent member of the band.
