Originally from Toronto, Canada, The Weeknd (born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, February 16, 1990) is a 34 year old rapper who co-founded the independent record label XO in 2011, with which he has released the vast majority of his music. That same year, he released three mixtapes: "House of Ballons," "Thursday," and "Echoes of Silence." All three were remixed, remastered, and released as a single compilation album, "Trilogy," in 2012. The following year, he dropped his debut album "Kiss Land." It peaked at number two on the album charts in Canada and the US. His next album, "Beauty Behind the Madness," was the first to reach the top spot in both nations. It was followed by three more number-one hit albums in Canada: "Starboy" (2016), "After Hours" (2020), and "Dawn FM" (2022). His most successful singles include "The Hills," "Can't Feel My Face," "Blinding Lights," "Save Your Tears," "Call Out My Name," and "Take My Breath."

Believe it or not, performers during the halftime show of the Super Bowl receive no payment for their performance and often contribute their own funds to support the show. The Weeknd contributed $7 million in 2021 to build the sets for his performance and ensure that the Halftime Show was everything he had hoped it would be. Instead of monetary compensation, The Weeknd received a rise in popularity on social media and streaming services.
The halftime show at the Super Bowl featured a blend of The Weeknds' most popular songs, including “Starboy,” “The Hills,” “Can't Feel My Face,” “I Feel It Coming,” “Save Your Tears,” “Earned It,” “House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls,” and “Blinding Lights.”
To promote his album After Hours, The Weeknd opted to portray a character in some of his public performances and music videos. With each successive release of the album's content, the character's appearance changed dramatically, giving rise to wild speculations that The Weeknd had undergone plastic surgery.
