 DiveLucaya Savoy Brown was the 2nd supporting act for Deep Purple. On the night of this concert Savoy Brown's opening set was phenomenal. Deep Purple, however, started off playing only songs from their latest album, "Burn." The crowd, wanting to hear more older songs, started chanting "Savoy Brown." At some point either a concert-goer or roadie started climbing a speaker tower and it toppled onto the stage, destroying some speakers and amps and starting a small fire which was quickly extinguished. Deep Purple left the stage, without finishing the set list, while the chants for Savoy Brown continued. After a short while, Savoy Brown returned to the stage and finished the night with an unforgettable performance. Deep Purple / Savoy Brown Mar 20, 2024

 GVrocks I remember that the tickets were easy to get and relatively cheap. My friend Patti mentioned that she'd heard and this concert one night while we were "cruising" the local hangouts in her 1968 Camaro and we both started singing Mercedes Benz. My date was a former sometimes highschool date and had gotten tickets with a fraternity brother who liked The Turtles, so it sounded like fun. I was the only one who liked Iron Butterfly.
