Pedrochu Limbes played as a solo guitarist who was screaming over his backing track, I love his albums but I expected a full band, I didn't know it was a solo project. Super cool Then Vesperine played their last album in full, during which the bassist broke his bass somehow. They had to find a replacement ASAP, probably from Hexis Hexis killed it, as always Hexis / Vesperine / Limbes Jun 28, 2024
Skybly An unforgettable night! It's been a joy watching Luke grow his confidence and building up his performance from gig to gig, and he absolutely brought the house down here. The energy in the venue was incredible and it felt extra special to witness him being joined by his fellow artists (Konstraktaaaaa!) and friends on stage. Could not recommend this any harder, absolutely worth being stranded in a foreign country for Luke Black Jun 28, 2024

Tim Moore I was at this show. Nobody big like this plays Augusta. It was general admission and we showed up 3 hours early expecting a long line but there was 1 guy with a pair of drumsticks in line. We couldnt believe it. Ended up front row, so close I could untie Geddy's shoelace (I didnt). The venue was about half full, and I think it only holds about 20k or so. Both bands killed it, was amazing. After the show we saw two tour buses parked behind the venue. The destination placard on the first said "Why are we here" and the second said "Never again". Augusta should be ashamed that two major bands like this came to town and they could only fill half the arena. Great show. Rush / Blue Öyster Cult Jun 27, 2024
Chri777 Aside from the overall volume, which I thought could have been louder, The Brian Jonestown Massacre sounded pretty doggone tight. Their first act appeared to be largely from their post 2010 anthology, and that’s only because I didn’t recognize most of it. My ear for their pre-2010 work is decent, but I could be wrong. Earlier, more familiar works popped up as the night progressed, and I was thrilled when I heard Anemone, probably my enduring favorite. It’s the song I would pick if limited to just one recommendation for someone who’d never heard the music of The Brian Jonestown Massacre. In that moment, and with that one song, was all of the following completely forgiven. After taking the stage and yoking up with his guitar, before a song had been played, Anton Newcomb called out an audience member in a “white t-shirt” for doing or saying something disagreeable to him. He punctuated his brief tirade with a threat to walk off stage immediately. Having seen Dig, a 2004 documentary film about BJM and The Dandy Warhols, I knew he meant it. I hoped the notoriously bad attitudes of the audiences that the band is known to either attract or create wouldn’t cut my evening short. I was there for the music, not the drama. About two songs in, I became certain that someone was going to storm off the stage, and it was likely going to be either Anton or his drummer, who Anton would not stop berating, admonishing, and humiliating in the middle of songs. “Slow down! Slow down! Look at me! Look at me, slow down! Look at me, goddamnit!!!” I never detected a hurried beat, nor a slowing of the tempo during Anton’s bullying. Joel Gion, their iconic tambourine player, didn’t slow a tick, as though he’d seen this all before and knew that any actual downing of the tempo would likely only make Anton worse. I kept waiting to see sticks go flying and the drummer hanging double birds before abandoning his seat. Either that or Anton would do the same, believing he couldn’t get what he wanted. Surprisingly, neither happened. The band’s stoic and subdued performance could be read as either a deliberate expression cool, or “Once I’m paid, I’m gone.” I described the show in a text to my friends back east as, “like watching an old and tattered but glorious pirate ship commandeered by a madman.” Anton is definitely a madman, an asshole-savant who writes great, psychedelic songs and apparently puts the people in his immediate vicinity through hell. Whether reacting to the audience’s catcalls or castigating his bandmates on stage is genuine or just a big act, I noticed it having the general effect of turning people off. So went some of the comments I overheard in the audience, and so was its effect on me. I bet there are pills Newcomb won’t take that would keep him from being an immature prick to the people who make his rock stardom possible: his band and his audience. It’s unfortunate that he won’t, because I doubt he made any new fans that night, and I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone but Joel didn’t jump ship before the tour’s end. That was the first show I’ve been to where my ability to enjoy the music was tinged by my anxiety over a performer’s behavior. Genuine or contrived, the attitude is perhaps better suited for a hardcore, punk or metal band, in my opinion. Then, maybe The Brian Jonestown Massacre is its own genre: psychedelic-punk, which is almost doesn’t work, like beast-opera or country-jazz. The band may have been exuding that reserved, 60’s cool, but Anton was nowhere near it, in my opinion. Some things, like childish tantrums and an “eat shit” attitude, just can’t be made cool. He needs to take his fucking pills. Or not. It doesn’t matter to me, as I won’t ever be back. He lost me on 10/7/23. Color Green, though, was fucking awesome.
