 lkvee8 Concert was referred to as “the JFK Jam.” When the Kinks were on stage, Ray Davies brought Chrissie Hynde out on stage! I remember still being in parking lot when Huey Lewis came on, and we had to hurry and get inside as I was—at the time—most interested in seeing Joan Jett. Lineup was Huey, then Joan, then I believe Loverboy was third followed by the Kinks and finally Foreigner.  E.Fud Aldous performed her repertoire with a deep, internalized commitment, focus, and passion; it felt like her artistry was expressing herself through mining her internal soul, and showing those gems to the audience from the inside out. It was truly an incredible experience, and this artist brings a deep well of gravitas, wonder, and curiosity. It was incredibly special to witness, it was unlike any other concert that I’ve attend, attended. She is special. She is a total standout, if you ever get a chance to see her live, go!!! It felt like Aldous takes her commitment and obligation to perform with the utmost respect, it’s hard to describe you have to see it in person. The audience was completely enthralled. Some audience members called out initially “thank you!” a whole bunch, her first initial response was a simple and gracious ‘thank you’, however, some fans continued to pepper comments throughout the concert and while in a typical concert that’s fine, here it just landed terribly and was jarring when compared to the atmosphere that aldous had cultivated: though they were not heckling, they were simply over enthusiastic, the comments landed almost as if they were rudely interrupting, and it felt like it was really frustrating for the majority because of a shared felt sense that Aldous was performing in her particular way, with her intensity and her going internal to conjur her music to cast a spell of gratitude and rapture in which the music could be shared. At one point, she said a comment quietly that I didn’t quite catch, something to the effect of by calling out at me you’re interrupting my Flow and taking me off track. She did not say those specific words to be clear, she was much more laconic and very quiet, very non-confrontational. At one point she did playfully say “Olé” in response to one audience member. She did an encore with two songs, and then the concert wrapped. Her band was beautifully synced up together, and her voice was lyrical and haunting, and totally grounded. Gorgeous music, stunning performance. I got the sense that as an artist, she remains completely true to herself, and that is what allows her to make such unique and compelling compositions, and by now I imagine everyone she encounters in the industry, understands her and knows to not attempt to interfere or use a heavy hand, but instead follow her lead. One thing that was incredibly surprising is that I had assumed in the audience I would find predominantly female and predominantly university age, instead it was an incredibly age-diverse audience, with late middle-age heavily represented, as well as a big slice of folks 65+ years.
