Jimrockman	A great concert, the backing singers were the Harlettes who included Katey Sagal. The audience encouraged Bette to lift up her top, which she did, to a raucous response from the audience. Bill Mair	The Charlie Daniels Band performed at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, Ontario, on Saturday, September 9, 1972. This historic concert took place during the Central Ontario Exhibition (COE) week, a landmark timeframe marking the very first year Charlie Daniels officially formed and toured under the "Charlie Daniels Band" banner. At this early stage in their career, the performance was a raw introduction to what would soon become the global phenomenon of Southern rock. In 1972, the band had just recorded their self-titled sophomore styling album “TE JOHN, GREASE, & WOLFMAN” named after the members' nicknames. It was released in 1972, courtesy of Kama Sutra Records. They had not yet released their mainstream breakout hit "Uneasy Rider" (which climbed the charts the following summer in 1973), meaning the Kitchener crowd experienced the band's foundational, high-energy blues and country-rock fusion. The original 1972 touring roster backing Charlie Daniels consisted of Joel "Grease" DiGregorio on keyboards, Earl Grigsby on bass, and a dual-drummer attack featuring Freddie Edwards and Buddy Davis. Jeffrey Meyer was their lone drummer during their initial 1972 formation year. The September 9 date famously coincided with the tail end of the annual Central Ontario Exhibition, bringing an energetic festival atmosphere to the auditorium grounds. Don Branson	w/dar & naomi we were lucky to get tickets. they sold out not long after they annouced it LAST YEAR but luckily some more opened up last week. another 90 degree hot muggy show on the hill. we missed the wombats but we didn't have to wait too long for the pixies. their songs run a little slow for my taste but their show was sitll very enjoyable. i really dug their guitar work. the show ran a little long too but i understand their catalog goes back as long as weezer's. i didn't get any pics from their set due to some unknown problem with my phone camera. weezer's set was their best show since their 2016 show with Panic! at the disco. they opened with the voiceover from the 'buddy holly' video. the lights went up on a oversized backdrop inspired by the same video complete with Rivers in Happy Days sweater. a few songs later Brian Bell rips off River's sweater to reveal a red soccer shirt and the backdrop becomes the magical Garage from the blue album classic. next rivers dons a captain's hat and jacket and runs thru the crowd to a mini stage only a few yard away from us on the hill to perform 'island in the sun' and Ah-ha's 'take on me'. at song's conclusion, rivers climbs into a small boat that whisks him away thru the crowd to return to the stage! they covered the Turtles' 'happy together' with an interlude verse of Green Day's 'longview'. of course Toto's 'africa' made an appearance. as the night went on the giant =w= took the stage with pyro shooting out of the wings and rivers doned a muscle shirt and sweatband. at show's conclusion the band took a bow. despite humidity and eyes stinging from the array of vape and pot smoke it was a fun and awesome show! Don Branson	weezer show #9 w/dar back at val andel again 4 years after miss jackson's the Unbreakable tour on the ONLY nasty rain/snow this week. for being upper-tier nosebleeds our seats were pretty good as we were straight across from the stage. we got to our seats around 7:30 unsure if we missed The Basement's extremely short set, or if an opener was present at all. the pixes were much better this year. they rocked loud and proud, hooks and runs still ever present but improved upon and engaging. it was much more of an arena rock show than last year. however, their set went a little long for my taste. Weezer was awesome as usual. they opened appearing in front of the drawn stage curtain in full babershop regalia singing "buddy holly" . the curtains then parted and Bill Haley and the 'movie theater snack guy' voiceover from the beginning of buddy holly" heralded the return of the Mel's Diner set with the neon "W" for "my name is Jonas. this gave way to The Garage and an additional flurry of songs including a cover of "paranoid". Rivers disappeared and reappeared on the mini 'boat' from last year for a trio of acoustic numbers including a fusion of the turtles' "happy together" and green day's "longview ". upon traveling back to the stage Rivers almost fell off the boat but laughed it off and sat down to 'row' his way back with an actual paddle. next, covers of "Africa" and "take on me" mixed in with a flurry of weezer's own catalog. after a very brief intermission they finished the encore with "hash pipe". during the show Rivers acknowledged the audience and shouted-out to Grand Rapids. it seems they get better and more relaxed every year. after the boat incident Rivers messed up a lyric but laughed it off and went on with the show like a pro should. another couple of great sets by awesome bands made it worth the 2 hour trek thru the weather and a great way to kick our concert season! Don Branson	WEEZER-THE GATHERING W/THE SILVERSUN PICKUPS and THE SHINS w/Dar & Naomi =w= concert #11 for me and dar! all of them in Michigan! we missed Silversun's set the shins were good. apparently its their 30th anniversary. weezer's appearance was preceded by 'Detroit rock city' playing on speaker to an empty stage followed by a short film of a kid trying to get weezer to perform at his house. right after, the exterior of his house appeared on stage bathed in gold light along with weezer themselves. there was a screen behind the house projecting various effects. pyro effects for 'hash pipe' for 'across the sea' they appeared to be in a rainstorm the power went purposely 'out' complete with sparks for a picnic table acoustic set including 'in the garage' with rivers on harmonica and brian on flute. the 'special delivery' of a drum kit led to rivers and pat having a drum-off Silversun's Nikki Monninger joined the band in her Stevie Nicks robe for 'we might as well be strangers', 'go away' and omg i couldn't believe it 'i just threw out the love of my dreams'! she was awesome! the show ended with brian and the audience daring rivers to jump into the set's pool which he finally did with an projected 'splash' $30 parking fairly close to the venue! non-game night Wednesdays rule!
