The Beach Boys were joined by Ringo Starr on drums, John Lodge and Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues on guitars as well as Cory Wells, Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton of Three Dog Night during their show. The all star ensemble rocked their way through "Back In The U.S.S.R.", "Good Vibrations", "Help Me Rhonda" and "Fun Fun Fun". Legendary Wolfman Jack was Master of Ceremonies.

I'd like to say how much I enjoyed the SXSW Music Festival experience with the members of PENTAGRAM (Bobby, Greg, Victor), Sean "PELLET" Pelletier (thanks for everything, including my admission costs, and accommodations at the Best Western Plus for two nights), Kelli Malella of Metal Blade Records (for just being sweet, and easy going - not to mention the advance copies of the new album), Demian Fenton of 9.14 Pictures (for the invitation to attend the film premiere), the professional staff at the Scoot Inn and Spin Magazine, and everyone else who made the weekend a bitchin' blast. I met a lot of people there, made some new friends, had the priceless opportunity to see Scott "Wino" Weinrich after many a year, hard core PENTAGRAM fans Sean Weingartner, and Benjamin Yaker were on hand to share the good times, and my friend Gregory Dorsett! No surprise to see Sean Weingartner at the PENTAGRAM show, he's a true supporter of the band, and never misses a gig. Big surprise for me to see Scott Weinrich! I hadn't seen, or talked to Scott in seventeen years, since the MELVINS show at the 9:30 Club in '94. Some additional highlights: PENTAGRAM's "Last Rites" is released 12 March on Metal Blade Records, in time to coincide with the bands appearance at SXSW. "Last Days Here" World Premiere, 14 March 2011, at the SXSW Film Festival, Vimeo Theatre, 500 Cesar Chavez Street. A 9.14 Pictures film documentary, directed by Don Argott, and Demian Fenton. This was the films world premiere, and I was invited to attend the screening, and received two film credits for my contributions. Oh yeah...as nothing exceeds like excess, my infamous image of Bobby was used not only for the film poster, but the DVD cover as well. Speaking of excess, my most enduring image of Bobby Liebling appears on the cover of Decibel Magazine (May 2011, Issue 079). Featuring a seven page spread on Bobby entitled "Miracle Man - All hail the latest unlikely resurrection of Bobby Liebling and PENTAGRAM" by J. Bennett. I received a contributing photographer credit, as well as a hefty supply of copies. They arrived just prior to the bands appearance at SXSW, and came in very handy that weekend. And as if that weren't enough... yet another high profile article on Bobby Liebling, and PENTAGRAM. It appeared in the May 2011 issue of Spin. The magazine solicited me for a batch of vintage images of the band to use in the issue, and on their online website to supplement the related six page spread entitled "Dr. Doom" by David Marchese. Spin also had at SXSW, their 'Spin Shed' on Red River Street. PENTAGRAM spent some time there meeting and greeting the staff, other media types, and their fans. They posed for the cameras, and submitted to interviews from various other outlets...PENTAGRAM finally received the long overdue attention, and exposure they deserved, and a bit rubbed off on me too.

I was at this concert. AC/DC was incredible. Aerosmith's performance was terrible.

footnote # 1: This contributor first stumbled into The Cramps traveling medicine show during their first foray outside of New York City's Bowery, (as I like to refer to as) my "Baptism by Fire" on 07 April 1978, at the Atlantis Club in Washington, D.C. I had heard of The Cramps in drips and drabs, in the pages of Richard, and Lisa Robinson's Rock Scene magazine, a rag devoted primarily to NYC glam rock, and the burgeoning punk rock movement. Needless to say, The Cramps opened many doors, and left an incalculable, indelible, life long impression on me. I was now totally corrupt, and, as I won't retrace the circumstances leading up to this moment, suffice to say, it had to do with an employee of a local record store; the Penguin Feather, seeking a gig as a DJ, and my giving him a lift to the Atlantis that evening. footnote # 2: The Atlantis Club was located at 930 F Street, NW, in the Atlantic Building, adjacent to Ford's Theatre (where U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated). Atlantis owner Paul Parsons was quoted in the day's following The Cramps ill-fated booking with support group, The Puppets as: "...too controversial, too destructive. No club is ready for that kind of destruction. The Cramps are not healthy." Evidently, Parsons told them 'never to return.' Soon after, the Atlantis closed it's doors, and the building was purchased and re-christened the Nightclub 9:30 on 31 May 1980, and there, The Cramps enjoyed many a return engagement.

The old "HELLION HOUSE". The Jaeger's (whom we were renting the house from) decided, in order to protect their investment from further damage, and gratuitous vandalism...kicked our loathsome asses out onto the street, but not without a rowdy send off! This was the first time HELLION played in front of an audience; friends, curiosity seekers, concerned neighbors and the usual suspects.

We hired Mike Gilette & Channel Z Productions to video tape the entire show using three cameras, but it remains unseen, maybe one day soon.

Shame on me...to have paid hard-earned cash money on a bevy of pseudo-quasi-neo imposter-bogus rock bands cashing in on the original band's (that you came to know and grew up with) past glories. It was a total sham and everyone was hood-winked, bamboozled, and taken for a ride. Rest assured, I don't believe for a minute there was an original line-up among the bands touting themselves as such.

So "The Killer" strolls out on stage, and is met by the presence of a Roland electric piano. He walks around it with his hand on hips, shaking his head, and the look of disgust on his face. He sits down on the bench, and plays three country weepers, gets up, and suddenly pushes the piano off the edge of the stage into the orchestra pit - then declares "The show is over, that's all yer gonna' git." and stalks off. The audience, completely stunned, boos and my friend Ron L. and myself give him a standing ovation while everyone looks and gasps at us in horror. I look at the lady seated next to me and admonish her; "What? You should be so lucky he doesn't pull out a .38 and start shooting everybody!" It was exactly what I wanted to see him do. I knew from the moment he saw that piano he was pissed, and it wasn't going to end well. A classic performance from the original Bad Ass of rock & roll.

Friends Anne B., Jason D. and myself drove down to Memphis on a lark for our own self-guided Elvis tour. Dropped in to see 45 Grave perform, say "Hello" and bought two singles that Dinah Cancer autographed for me.

Imagine having the opportunity to see AC/DC, and U.F.O. for under $5.00! This would be lead singer Bon Scott's last appearance in the Nation's Capitol, as the band were on their "If You Want Blood" tour. Bon Scott passed away eight months later in London.
