Kurt Nielsen The Master of Prog Rock I attended a fantastic concert with Steve Hackett (1950–). As he jokingly said himself from the stage, he was a member of the “boy band” Genesis from 1971 to 1977. Those were the years when Genesis became the great masters of progressive rock, creating legendary albums such as Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and especially The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The great theatrical figure of the band was singer Peter Gabriel. The other members were Mike Rutherford on bass and guitar, Tony Banks on keyboards, and Phil Collins on drums. Phil Collins later became the lead singer and went on to have a huge solo career. Genesis created music that was different, complex and full of vast soundscapes, long compositions and technically brilliant musicianship. The same spirit was present at the concert in Amager Bio. There were six musicians on stage. In addition to the classic Genesis setup, the band also featured a talented multi-instrumentalist playing various wind instruments. The first set consisted of music from Hackett’s solo career. One of the pieces almost drifted into avant-garde jazz territory, featuring an excellent bassist playing fretless bass. The second set focused on Genesis’ progressive rock period from the 1970s. One of the songs lasted more than 20 minutes, and of course there was also room for a drum solo. Steve Hackett keeps the Genesis music alive and tours the world performing it. This is music that demands concentration and careful listening. Peter Gabriel’s lyrics alone deserve literary analysis. It is difficult to replace Peter Gabriel, and the singer this evening was probably the weakest link in an otherwise outstanding group of musicians. “Genesis” means creation story, and creation itself was truly revisited in a packed Amager Bio filled with mature men who are not simply attracted to short pop songs.  Blues-Lover Awesome show! Jason and his band sound just like I remember all the songs. Jason is a master drummer and the lead guitarist are amazing. The lead singer does a great job of sounding very much like Robert Plant did. However, back in the day, Robert was much nicer to watch! I saw them in '69 when we were all much younger! This is a must see show when it comes to your area. Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening May 18, 2026

Kelly Gatton This is a true story. Back in October '68 I saw Cream at The Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston (tickets were $3, $4, $5, and $6). I don't remember what price mine were, but we were just happy to be there. Before we took our seats, we hit the snack bar to load up on crap before the show. While we were waiting our turn, some random dude walked by and said that we could see the band up close if we followed him down to a roped off area a little further away. We followed his lead and came to a stairwell where we could see a little way down. After standing there for couple of minutes, we saw movement coming up the staircase towards us. There were 2 security guys standing close by, but that was it. We walked as far up to the ropes as possible, and stood there getting excited. After less than a minute, lo and behold !, here they came. First came Jack Bruce, followed by Eric Clapton, followed by Ginger Baker. Jack and Eric just passed us by without so much as a glance in our direction. They all came within 3 feet of us on the way to the stage. Ginger walked by last, and he looked over at us and sort of grinned. They all must of thought "Who are these punks" as they passed us by. We were all in 7th heaven though. Great show that night. Absolutely true story. Cream / Terry Reid May 18, 2026
