 KanTexCali The concert was one of the events in conjunction with The Millennium March on Washington, which was an event to raise awareness and visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and issues of LGBT rights in the US, it was held April 28 through April 30, 2000 in Washington, DC. The Millennium Pride Festival was held prior to the March, it was a huge event that saw tens of thousands flock to the US capital. A march from the Washington Monument to the front lawn of the United States Capitol took place on April 30, where the crowd was addressed by several members of Congress and, via video, by President Bill Clinton. Steck was just 23 years old at the time and living in Fairfield. A "Woodstock" Connection: Steck's mother had been pregnant with him while attending the original 1969 Woodstock festival. He felt it was a "karmic connection" to book Richie Havens—the man who famously opened Woodstock—as his very first headliner. The Venue: The show was held in the old Fairfield High School auditorium and was a complete sell-out. The Performance: Local accounts recall Havens’ signature high-energy performance style, including his rhythmic foot-tapping and unique open-tuning guitar playing that filled the auditorium.  TomB This was a belter - performances by Alice Faye (blue me away!), Guy Garvey & Phil Campbell (as usual) stood out for me and my musical tastes, but most of the others were not far behind e.g. Ashley Campbell (daughter of Glen), James Emmanual, C Duncan and of course Roddy & the band plus John Logan & the brilliant RCS orchestra. The three "backing" singers also gave wonderful renditions of Bridge Over Troubled Water & Nutbush City Limits. What anight!
