 Brucefan24 The third of three shows at Carter Barron Amphitheatre. Potentially complete setlist (although it is likely that "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" was played after "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)"). Includes what may be the first performance of The Drifters' "Up On The Roof", which Springsteen sung while sat at the lip of the stage. A beautiful arrangement with a "Thunder Road-esque" piano introduction and understated accompaniment from the band. There are only seven known performances of the song, and none after Bruce's stand at New York's Bottom Line in the middle of August 1975. The encores of "Carol", "A Love So Fine" and final song "Quarter To Three" are not included on the tape, but rather the recollections of attendees. "The E Street Shuffle" includes "Having A Party". "Thunder Road" is full band. "Incident On 57th Street" is just Roy Bittan's piano accompanying Springsteen's vocals. "Kitty's Back" includes a pronounced "Moondance" section. "Growin' Up" and "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" are each dropped from the set for the first known time on the tour. The tape from which this setlist is taken could potentially be from the previous night, but circumstantial evidence leads us to place it here.  Ubergherkin This gig was before Slaves sold out their Owl Sanctuary show which had had iconic gig pictures of a tumultuous audience response. I just remember watching them when (as support) they had 2 lunatic fans playing some weird game right up the front, which let's just say didn't endear me to them or the band they were representing for. But seriously apart from these 2 uberfans you could easily have had a go cart race up the front and not really have caused much mayhem. What a difference a few months make.  Tim 81 Epic show with an all star line up featuring Josh Freese, James Iha and Twiggy Ramirez. Maynard was behind a white screen with only his silhouette visible as he sang the opening refrain from Vanishing. It left everyone wondering if he’d remain obscured for the whole show until the curtain dropped as the beat came in. They were originally billed on the Big Day Out line up along with Metallica but withdrew after tickets had already gone on sale. Luckily they didn’t keep us waiting for long and delivered a much longer and more gripping set than a daylight festival slot could offer. Maynard was on fire, delivering a better vocal performance than I ever witnessed him perform with tool. Band was super tight, Billy’s les paul tone was superb and his lead work was on point but I felt that James Iha wasn’t given any room to shine, almost hidden at the back of the stage and adding extra colour more than song defining contributions.  Tim 81 Strange time to see them as it had been several years since toxicity was released and while their popularity had grown, the hype and anticipation had dropped off considerably as there was no new album in sight. The tour announcement was a bit of a surprise considering the lack of a record to promote and the reaction was “System? WTF?! I guess we’ll take it but is there an album or something 🤷‍♂️” Show was impressive despite the lack of anticipation and they had refined their sound a lot since the previous tour. Darren had some smaller combo amps which helped add some extra mid-range body and high end sparkle over his chugging fat stacks and this really improved their sound a lot. Science was a highlight that had been omitted on the 2002 tour and they previewed Holy Mountains which was still a long way from release. Notable grievance was the altered breakdown in War which featured some sort of vocoder in place of Serge’s naked yell and ruined the best part of the song.  Tim 81 I enjoyed this one as I recall. The hifi bar had a glassed off balcony bar back in the day where you could sit and grab a drink while watching the opening acts. Chemical heart was the only song performed from the upcoming album (new detention) which hadn’t been announced yet at the time. Crowd really embraced the new single which was gaining traction immediately on triple j and had started to get a look in on commercial radio too. All the craziness of an early 2000’s pit with crowd surfers and no shortage of people willing to risk cracking a rib or two. Grinspoon / Dern Rutlidge / The Pictures Aug 03, 2025
 Tim 81 A special show. Chop suey and the album had dropped just a few months prior and were starting to explode. The show sold out but not immediately. The anticipation was immense and I could feel it while waiting in the line to get in… Everyone was absolutely pumped to be seeing this band that had been blowing their minds and blowing up the radio for the last 4 months. The guys from Amen who were also on the Big Day Out line up were there and fans were shouting Hi as they walked past the line to the guest list entrance. Frustratingly, their set wasn’t scheduled to start until 11pm which left everyone in attendance exhausted ahead of the Big Day Out the following morning. Sound was a little dark inside but the pit was insane, setlist relentless and everyone left with a new arsehole torn and a story to tell about seeing System play a club show to just 1500 fans.  Tim 81 The band stated that this was the biggest headline show of their short career to date with ~6000 tickets sold. Tickets were still available the week of the show but I believe it sold out before the night. Second single crawling had just been released a few weeks prior although the album had been out for a while and already exploded. Crowd was pumped for Sunk loto, chanting for them ahead of their set and even demanding an encore for their support slot 🤣. My enduring memory of Linkin Park’s set was Chester's voice tearing through the mix like a 50 foot razor shredding everything in its path. It resonated through every surface of the building.  Tim 81 One for the ages. Show was announced at late notice and very surprisingly considering the previous night at festival hall was undersold. Josh Homme was hanging out on the balcony watching the distillers set and had to venture through the thick crowd down the stairs and past the pit to the backstage door ahead of QOTSA’s set. He’s way too tall to go unnoticed in the crowd at his own show 🤣. Opened with Regular John and played a marathon set covering almost everything from songs for the deaf and huge chunks of the first two records. Lanegan stole the show as he did every time I saw them tour this album. Noticeable tension between Josh & Nick on stage toward the end if the set… Nick didn’t come in for his stripped down bass lick toward the end of no one knows and instead looked at josh with a cheeky grin. Josh gave a look of disgust and came in with the lick on his guitar instead. Nick played a solo gig at the Cherry bar straight afterwards where he opened with an acoustic version of six-shooter and wad accompanied by Mark Lanegan for several tracks including a Spanish rendition of Gonna leave you. Troy and Joey were both there too but Josh was nowhere in sight… Some very telling signs regarding what was about to go down the following week. Queens of the Stone Age Aug 03, 2025
